The wind was strong that night. I was in my little room in the attic of ’s house. In the previous night, we celebrated me coming here. Four months living with my best friends. I felt complete… Not really. I still didn’t feel complete because I knew I liked someone who didn’t feel the same. It was sad to know that two days ago I saw him kissing an unknown blonde. I confess that broke my heart in pieces so little, that it would be impossible for it to be reconstructed. And yesterday, I was thankful that she wasn’t in the little celebration around the wood fire.

Flashback

- Everyone is downstairs already! Come down! – Someone shouted, impatient, on the other side of the door.
- I’m going! – To be honest, I was avoiding it. I had been ready for fifteen minutes, but decided to sit and wait. I didn’t have the slightest desire to see that fake blonde there with him.
- I mean it, everyone is downstairs… - said opening my room’s door. – Why are you still there?! – He asked impatient.
- Sorry… I needed to be alone for a while. – I answered, looking at the floor.
- Are you okay? – He asked, sitting next to me on the bed.
- I am. I’m just quite thoughtful today. – I took a deep breath. – And don’t even think about saying ‘wow, you’re thinking!’ or you’re dead. – I said, standing up.
- Do you read minds now? – He looked scared at me, but then laughed.
- You’re predictable, my dear. – I answered and blinked, going to the door. Before I could think of opening it, he pulled me back to the bed, tickling me. – Stop! Stooooooooooooop! – I tried to shout between giggles. I was used to being treated badly by him. Ok, I exaggerated, but he’s always tickling me.
- Not until you tack back what you’ve said! – He said on top of me, still tickling me. Have I already said he’s such a child?
- You’re not predictable! I read minds! Now stop tickling me! – I shouted. On the same time he came off me, stopping in front of the bed, giving me his hand to help me stand up. – I’ll never say anything again, huh. – I said whilst I tried to fix my wild hair.
- Oh, please say! I love to tickle you; it’s so funny to see your suffering! – He laughed amused, going out of the room. Is he a psychopath and I don’t know?
I went out of the room and went toward the living room/kitchen. As the windows were glass ones, I could see the guys outside around the fire.
And there he was. Beautiful, as always… No! No, he wasn’t beautiful… Yes, he was… Enough! He was not. There, end of. I took a deep breath and opened the big glass door and went in their direction.
- HALLELUJAH! – They shouted.
- Yep, I think miracles do happen. – I laughed quietly. There wasn’t many people, fifteen people, maximum.
There were two tree trunks on the floor. I decided to sit next to an unknown man. – What did I lose? – I asked.
- Robert’s not funny jokes. Nothing much. – replied.
- Hey! They were funny! – Robert defended himself. Now I knew the name of the man next to me. Everyone laughed and contradicted him.
- Music! – yelled when seeing bringing an acoustic guitar.
- Are you going to sing? – I asked in a low voice.
- Yes. – He smiled. – Do you want to request one?
- You know my favourite. – I returned the smile.
- I choose my song! – said quickly, standing up from the trunk. – Everything I ask for! – He said loudly, with a celebration tone. Everyone shouted. I only smiled. I was starting to think the alcohol had started causing an effect.
strummed a few chords before he started playing. I loved this song. I tried to look to the nothingness near the sea, so that I didn’t stare at him whilst he played. In the chorus, everyone sang loudly, happily.
I looked around, pretending that I had just met his stare, and realised that wasn’t there. The guy goes to my room to bother me because I was taking too long and then he doesn’t show up?
- What did I lose? – asked, sitting next to me on the trunk, hugging sideways.
- The best song. – stuck his tongue at his friend. Sometimes I think I’m not the youngest here, it wasn’t possible.
- When someone sticks their tongue, they’re asking for a kiss. – I take back what I said. I can be more childish than half of the children in a primary school.
Everyone laughed, except for .
- It’s a joke, you fool! – I sent him a kiss in the air. He made a grimace, but didn’t resist and started laughing as well.
The night was pleasant. , for some reason, didn’t let go of me for a second. To be honest, he had these strange habits of hugging. Who knows.
- I wanted to dedicate this song to someone very special to me. – said. My heart froze. Someone special? Is he in love? I lowered my head on ’s shoulder.
- YAY! THERE’S SOMEONE IN LOVE HERE! – shouted, clapping his hands. Everyone laughed. Except for me. I tried to disguise it with a smile. Fake. But the intention is what counts.
- Since the first time I saw her. – He smiled. He, incredible as it may seem, didn’t get shy when saying that. He was with a ‘foolishly in love’ face. Is it now that I run away and start crying?
- It’s called Whoever She Is. – He smiled at me. Wait, that’s my song. My favourite song since I’ve been a The Maine fan. Is there another person who really likes this song? Did it have to be my song?
He started to sing calmly. He closed his eyes in various parts of the song. I imagine he was thinking of her. I wanted to cry there so badly. It did really seem that read minds. He hugged me tightly since the begging of the song. I closed my eyes and prayed that the song would finish quickly. I was lost in my thoughts until poked me, making me open my eyes.
When I opened them, I saw that had his hand out for me. I didn’t think much, I just held his hand, which pulled me to him. He hugged me sideways as I was seconds ago with his friend. But, opposite to how I was, he was kind of dancing in the rhythm of the song, going slowly from side to side.
When the song finished, the silence took over. Until someone burped. Everyone laughed out loud, even I.
- I hope you understood. – He said quietly, since we were close. I looked at him not understanding. Honestly, I didn’t understand. – You didn’t understand… - He got up and went inside the house. I kept still for some more minutes to try to understand something. What did he mean by ‘I hope you understood’? Understood what? Wait… What if the special girl was me? No, it wasn’t me. I had to stop dreaming too much, it hurts badly when you wake up.

End of flashback

Definitely that song wasn’t for me, it was for the blonde. He was trying to put me off nicely before I got hurt. I think he knew I liked him, and didn’t want to hurt me by saying ‘no’ straight to my face.
- Congratulations. – I said to myself while I got up from the bed, going to the door. I went downstairs quickly.
- Are you going to the beach wearing socks? – asked as soon as I said I was going there. I looked at my feet and saw I was really wearing socks. White ones.
- Yes. - You do that because you don’t wash your socks. – He said, remembering that the one who did the laundry on that house was a cleaner which came three times a week.
- I’m going to wash it this time. – I answered and made my way to the door. – I’ll wash MINE! – I said before he went on dreaming I would wash his socks. I didn’t quite understand why I talk to him in that manner. – I’m sorry. – I said and went away.
I walked slowly until I reached the sand. I looked to the sea, it was calm. I don’t know how since the wind was strong. I looked to the sides and saw one of the tree trunks from the wood fire night.
I sat and leaned my back on it. I closed my eyes and stayed like this for a long time.
I was thinking of how my life had changed since I came here. I never thought I’d have a friendship with the guys from the band I most admired. I still admire, of course.
- What are you doing here? – I was taken away from my thought, getting scared. laughed, amused with my reaction.
- I was thinking. – I replied more calmly.
- I want to know about what. – I sat down next to me. Every time I was close to him a shockwave went through my body and my heart raced until it nearly went off my mouth. – If you want to tell me, of course. – He smiled.
- Nothing specific, really… I was thinking about how my life changed… - I answered staring at the sea in front of me.
- For better, isn’t it? – He asked.
- Surely. – I smiled at him. We stared at each other with foolish smiles on our faces for a long time.
- The moon is beautiful today. – He commented, breaking the silence. I looked for it in the sky, and had to turn around, because it was exactly behind me. It was really beautiful. I smiled and turn back to him.
Another fright took over me. He was really close to me. He was staring into my eyes, as if he could read something in it.
- But what… - I tried to ask, but he didn’t allow. His lips leaned on mine calmly. I was static, without knowing what to do until he put him hand on my neck and tried to deepen the kiss. I kissed him back. The kiss of my life. The kiss that I had waited for so long.
- I was hoping you would understand this yesterday. – He said after pulling our mouths apart. His eyes were still closed, caressing my face.
- I thought it wasn’t for me. – I replied and looked down, feeling ashamed.
- Silly as always. – He laughed quietly and kissed me again.
The moon was really beautiful. I’ll never forget it.
